What Makes You Happy?

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” Thomas Merton

I was happy to not run this weekend – at all. Shocking, I know, but I needed time to do nothing.

Nothing, of course, is relative. When I did nothing, I cleaned out old toys (again), organized the basement, shopped for groceries, played with the boys, hemmed pants, and caught up on life: nothing. But it was the nothing that I needed. Besides, my knee is just a little bit sore.

On any typical weekend, I love my long runs (my time alone) and I love racing (running with my family and friends). Today, I had the opportunity to do both, and I passed.

Tomorrow, the pendulum will swing in the other direction and I’ll be on the road again. Then, it will come back to the centre and balance will be restored.
