I need someone to tell me how I’m able to work 5 days a week, chauffeur two children (and sometimes their friends ) to and from school and to after school activities, manage the house and train for a marathon without feeling tired but am exhausted after going to my brother’s wedding.
Well, I suppose there is more to it than that. My sons were part of the wedding party and I was MC. We looked after an out-of-town aunt and tried to assist my dad with my mom….The wedding was lovely but I needed to sleep in this morning.
This afternoon, I was humbled again when I went out for my first run in six weeks. Yes, on Thursday, I was cleared to run 5K – as long as I didn’t feel any pain. So today, when I was not pressed for time and could focus on form and feel, I headed out.
I’m not sure why, but I chose to run mid-afternoon, when the humidex was at 38C (or 102F). Having not run at all this summer, that was clearly a poor decision. My pace was good but I needed a few breaks, resulting in an overall lower pace time than I would have liked. I felt more out of shape than I’ve ever been.
However, my run was pain-free and that is great news. The plan, now, is to run twice more this week and race 5K on Sunday. Of course, physio, acupuncture and cycling are still in the works. And, now that this wedding is over, I think I might just dip into the pool and try to get my swim back on before the end of summer. Will I do it? Hmmmm.
