For the first time in a long time, I met and surpassed my weekly mileage goals. The first was easy: run 0 miles.
Actually, that wasn’t easy to do; it took every once of mental effort to force myself not to run. On Sunday, when I went for a walk, I did break down and tried to – just to test my knee, if nothing else. But the pain was immediate so I stopped. It was at that point when I realized that I must have been running through pain for weeks beforehand. Anyhow, I didn’t run for the rest of the week and am proud of myself for sticking to my plan.
My second goal was to cycle 80 miles. Now, this may not sound like a lot but, being injured and not wanting to put the stress of climbing hills on my knee, I have spent all of my miles on my windtrainer: constant cycling in the basement with the boys nearby (sometimes within 10 feet). Eighty miles seemed doable as I’ve been riding for 40 to 55 minutes each time, and 5 days a week while strengthening the quad muscles around me knee; I figured it wouldn’t take much effort to get in my goal distance. Well, with Wednesday night, I cycled 93 miles this past week. Next week, it should be easy to get beyond 100!
This week: Run Zero again. But now it’s easier. I’ve done it once and I can do it again. And who knows? Perhaps I might be able to run a mile or two by the weekend. Crossing fingers.
